A Woman of the Arts

I’m learning how to sew. What’s the saying? You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Is 36 considered old? I hope not.

Last fall when I started designing skirts that my closet was missing, I found a factory that was willing to work with me. For the record, this factory and the people who work there are great! I would love to work with them again in the future but for now at this stage in the business it’s just too expensive. I need to figure out how to decrease the production cost per item. My solution: I’m learning how to sew. I don’t think I’ll be a master of the trade anytime soon, but I am hoping to get a general understanding of the intricacies and the time it takes to create the skirts I designed.

Along the way I’ll become more familiar with different fabrics and the fashion industry as a whole. The respect I have for people who know how to do this, those who can create something out of nothing, has already increased tenfold. How cool it is to make something. For you or those you love. Even those people you don’t know but want to make their day brighter by creating something that makes them feel beautiful and worthy.

Bringing a brand to life takes longer than I anticipated. In accounting even audits move faster than this! My patience has been tested; my confidence and excitement has dipped a time or two. Around every corner lies another challenge or problem you have to solve. I’m starting to share more of my daily life on social media, not just what I wear. The people who follow me on Tiktok don’t know me personally. I’ve never met them and therefore I feel less embarrassed to post the wins and the setbacks. If you’re at all interested in what I’m doing or what this process looks like please be sure you’re following me on Tiktok.

That’s all for now. Thank you for being here and thank you for the support. I hope there’s something in your life that you’re excited about and you look forward to what the future could look like!

Xx,

Angeline
